Norton Survey. Housing Development in the Village? A Village Field?

Norton Survey.

Housing Development in Village?
A Village Field?

Background summary

A planning application has been submitted for the development of 31 houses in Norton. The developer has offered a piece of land to the Town Council to be used as amenity for the village.  The Town Council has received a request from the developer’s agent asking if the Town Council would accept the land as a donation and take responsibility for it going forward. The Town Council was also asked to suggest what kind of facility would best serve the village if they felt a field was a good idea.

The Council resolved that they ought to consult the community before responding to these requests.

The questions asked in the survey were all felt necessary to provide a proper response to the request received from the  developer’s agent. The results can be seen by clicking Survey Results. This opens a pdf. Once open please page down for charts.

Council Conclusion

The Council considered the results of the Survey at its meeting on the 14th May. Councillors noted that 187 responses were received in total,  a response rate of 37.4%, a return rate which is generally considered to be a good response rate for a survey of this kind.

They also noted the non response rate of 62.6% which the Council felt suggested that a considerable body of residents in the village are not concerned either way about, development in the village, or a village field.

Taking these factors into account and noting that a substantial majority of those that did respond did not want a village field, the Council resolved to reply to the developer's agent that they did not want to accept the land as a donation.
